What a Time To Be Alive | Bullet Proof Coffee
The first time I tasted bullet proof coffee I hated it. It just tasted like there was butter in my coffee!! Later on I had gone to an all vegan, organic restaurant in Toronto and I ordered a Vegan Bullet Proof Coffee thinking the ingredients sounded tasty! Low and behold it was DELICIOUS. I am someone who hates coffee without something sweet and creamy so I just end up avoiding having it every day or using an almond milk, but it’s just not the same or the healthiest. Not to mention the price of a good tasting almond creamer adds up!
One morning I was in my kitchen getting ready before work and I decided, why not try making my own creation of a bullet proof coffee, minus the butter.
I threw into a magic bullet 1 tbsp of coconut butter (this is sooo good to have on hand for snacks and other recipes), real local maple syrup, and of course the coffee!
The coconut butter (also labeled as “Raw Coconut”) has a bit of its own sweetness so you may not even need to add a sweetener depending on your preferences. I used Natures Way brand but I’m sure any brand will do. If you don’t have this on hand and you want to make it right now, any healthy oil should work as long as
you don’t hate the taste. Coconut oil, Avocado oil, Hemp oil are all options.
Maple syrup is an optional ingredient and it does effect the blood sugar so I would use it sparingly, especially if you suffer from diabetes. Although the real deal also offers some health benefits when used in moderation. Technically being the blood of the trees, the sap of the maple tree could help encourage cardiovascular health. It has many antioxidant properties and minerals like magnesium, manganese, and zinc. I would switch up the type of sweetener and always keep in mind it is still a source of sugar, but it is a better option than your plain and simple white sugar which has no micronutrient value.
The coffee grinds I buy from a local organic coffee shop Birds and beans. I choose organic to avoid any pesticides or herbicides used to produce the coffee. I also choose birds and beans coffee because the quality is recognizable. It never tastes burnt, and they respect the environment and birds too! Some people wouldn’t know that harvesting some coffees actually hurts the environment. You can learn more about that here on their website. You may also choose to use a non-organic coffee instead. It will still work fine for the recipe.
The outcome after blending for a few seconds is a latte creamy drink! With NO animal products and some healthy fats that will keep you feeling energized throughout the morning. Side note though, choose a blender with a screw on lid, otherwise the heat while blending may cause a big mess. Unfortunately, I learned that the hard way the one day I decided to not use my magic bullet LOL. So here it is! The best creamy coffee you’ve ever tasted, without the cream!!
Vegan Bullet Proof Coffee
Ingredients
1-2 cups of coffee, brewed (I used Birds and beans)
1 Tbsp of coconut butter (I used Natures Way) (or coconut oil)
1 Tsp of real maple syrup (optional) (this I buy from a local farmer or the farmers market) (you may also use raw honey, coconut sugar or stevia).
Here you could also add some collagen if you please. Many people enjoy adding this to their regimen for skin, or bone and joint health. One tbsp should be enough.

Poor into a glass and drink!
